On April 21, 2008 Senator Leibell, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security, joined his colleague, Senator George Maziarz, Chairman of the Senate Energy Committee, for a tour of Con Edison’s East River Plant.
They received an overview of the security measures that Con Edison uses to protect its facilities. Company executives presented them with an overall view of their operations and protocol for delivering power in emergency situations.
Senator Leibell said, "We often take for granted the power supplied by companies such as Con Edison. Without this power, New York City would not be able to function on any level that is required by a major population center."
